Chris Schwarz, CPA, began his career with a local Dallas CPA firm with a total of 25 professionals after graduating from St. Edward’s University in 2000 and earning his CPA in 2003. Chris became an Officer of that firm in 2009. In 2011 that firm was acquired by a national CPA firm where he became a Partner. When feeling like he was losing touch with his clients he decided to open his own Practice in 2012. Chris has become a great asset to his clients in both consulting on tax savings strategies and financial awareness and financial planning for their business.
He is very active in the community and is committed to helping the families of those that serve and protect our freedoms. He joined the board of the Snowball Express foundation as treasurer in 2011 where they serve the children of our fallen military by providing events across the country for them to connect and communal heal. These events culminate in a large gathering of over 1,500 children and surviving spouses here in Dallas for a 5-day event where they can heal during the holiday season. Chris is currently the Vice-chairman and CFO of this organization for which he has served since 2014. Chris is also Vice President of the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas where they provide support for the families of fallen Police and Fire. He started with the Guns and Hoses foundation in 2010 by chairing a golf tournament which provided funds to support equipment purchases for underfunded police departments in the area. He was a board consultant before joining the Board in 2015.
Michael began his career with Schwarz CPA while still in school. He shares a common vision of providing the highest level of service to each client and sharing his expertise to provide clients with an opportunity to meet and exceed their goals every year.
Michael received a BS in Accounting, Cum Laude, from the University of Texas in Dallas. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a Member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. Originally from the Dallas area, Michael and his family live in Prosper. He is a loyal fan of all Dallas sports team and studying stats led him to become an accountant.
Early on I realized I am a numbers guy. Whether it was sports statistics or financial statistics, both set the stage for a true performance picture. So it was a logical decision to pursue a career in accounting after graduating from SMU in 1994. After spending 10 years in public accounting, primarily auditing privately held and publicly traded companies (and 401K plans), the travel related to my profession took a toll on myself and my family so I decided to make a move to industry where I took an SEC financial reporting position with a company that had acquired a large utility provider in the largest leveraged buyout in history. I remained at the company for the next 9 years where I handled various responsibilities related to SEC financial and management reporting as well as financial compliance with the debt covenants associated with the buyout. As I continued my work there I realized how much I missed public accounting and working with small business owners. Chris Schwarz and I had worked together previously and after talking with Chris for a few years about joining his company we decided the time was right for me to make the move back into public accounting. I believe that my assurance services experience in public accounting as well as my industry accounting experience provide an asset to the Company’s current CFO consulting practice and will allow us to grow by offering assurance services to our existing clients as well as new clients. The same skills required in accounting also serve well as a basis for balancing family and work. Together with my wife Paula, we navigate life with two sons, Jordyn 13 and Parker a Junior at UT Dallas and two daughters Megan & Grace both Seniors at SMU. The activities I enjoy as a parent and father include coaching, playing hockey, running, lifting weights, attending football and basketball games at SMU, and making a family outing at a Dallas Stars game. When I am at our home in McKinney, I enjoy spending time with my family playing games or watching movies and I always look forward to enjoying a nice glass of wine with Paula.
Very early on I discovered I had an affinity for numbers and how those concepts related to the broader world of accounting. This early interest developed into a serious pursuit at Case Western Reserve University as an undergraduate and then as a graduate student. Learning about and understanding the role of accounting in peoples lives transitioned into the deep respect I have the profession with the apex of attainment being a CPA. It is the realization that I am good at what I enjoy doing and others share this view to the extent that acquaintances in both the business world and in my social circles were asking for advice on taxes and accounting. The approach I take when it comes to clients is one influenced by many years in the corporate environment. Prior to starting my practice, I was CFO for a Dutch-owned company headquartered in Amsterdam. Lessons learned during this time were applied to what I consider one of my more successful ventures involving the sale of a Dallas based taxi company; this was particularly rewarding because it provided strategic opportunities for both buyer and seller. The satisfaction of being able to provide information which enables a client to plan prudently, seizing economic opportunities, and identifying economic and therefore tax consequences excites and motivate all my work. Being able to represent a client’s best interest begins with what I consider to be my core beliefs: 1) I am probative, 2) responsive, and 3) proactive. By following these three precepts I am able to truly represent a client in a manner that is both personal and legal. This becomes the basis for any inquiries involving one’s business, litigation or IRS matters. I listen with the ears of a CPA (Client PsychoAnalyst) so that I can provide the level of personalized service each client expects and deserves. All successes I experience are directly related to client satisfaction because, at the end of the day when I get home, I can say: Today was a good day.
